My husband says Brownies & Ice Cream smells like we just had sex. Please handle this.

Lit it after dinner. He walked in, sniffed, and said, and I am quoting, “it smells like we just fucked.” We had not. We had lasagna.

I am not exactly mad at the candle. I am mad that he thinks that’s what the house smells like after, and that he said it to the candle, like the candle was in the conversation.

I live alone and I did not need this information about either of you.

This is why I asked for a childproof lid. Different problem. Same candle. My house cannot smell like that while the PTA directory is open on the table.

Nina, thank you for the directness, and for the quotation marks. We’re sorry the evening got awkward. Lasagna did not deserve that.

What your husband is describing, in his own words, is a warm dry-down: brown butter, vanilla, and a room that has been closed. Other customers have called the same stretch “the room after company has gone.” He used fewer words and a different guest list. Both descriptions are pointing at the dry-down.

If you’d like a glass that does not invite commentary, Vallejo Fog has never been described this way. We checked the notes, and then we checked the forum.

He said “company” is a polite way to put what he meant. I told him to be quiet. He is not being quiet. He keeps lighting it, and then he looks at me like he has made a point.

Sex is not in the formula. I went back through the batch sheet to be sure, including the line where someone once wrote down a biscuit. The closest material is toasted walnut, which can read as skin-warm above 72°F.

If the apartment was warmer than that, the walnut was doing what walnut does. I’m glad he likes it. “Handle this” is also a fair request. We can exchange the glass.

Big Tallow, thank you. Paraffin does smell like a decision. We have decided against it.

Nina, the exchange is at the counter whenever you like. No receipt needed if you still have the glass. If your husband would like to keep this one, that is also a complete solution, and it is the solution I suspect he is campaigning for. Campaigns can be relocated. A sunroom is traditional.

We had the opposite. I lit it and my wife said “did you have someone over.” I had not. I had a candle and a closed window. We are fine. I think. She has asked me to post this so there is a record.

Hollis, you are fine, and the record is now public, which was her wish. A candle is not company. Please tell her she is welcome to smell the bench if she wants a second opinion. The bench will tell the truth. It usually smells like a candle, and on Tuesdays it smells like cocoa.

Update. He can keep it in the sunroom, which hits 74 by noon, which explains the walnut and also his personality. I bought a Vallejo Fog for the bedroom. He says the bedroom now smells like weather.

I consider this a win. I’m posting it because you fixed it, and because he is reading this thread out loud, including this sentence.

I still live alone. The update helped. Thank you for the weather.

Weather is one of our favorite reviews. We’re glad the house is sorted, and we’re glad he has a sunroom. Please tell him the thread says hello, briefly, and that the bedroom is no longer in the conversation.
