Burned in four-hour sessions as recommended. Wick trimmed to 1/4 inch before every session. Same room (dining, 68°F), same table, no drafts. Kitchen timer, log sheet, two witnesses for the final session.

Total: 49 hours, 52 minutes. The label says 50 hours.

At $48 for 3,000 minutes, I am owed 12.8 cents. I am not interested in the money. I am interested in the minutes.

Gerald has timed every candle this shop has made since 2019. The burn times on the labels are accurate partly because of him. Show some respect.

Gerald, thank you for the log, which I have printed and put in the binder. You are correct.

Our labeled burn time is the median of five test glasses from every batch. Your glass, 26-114, signed on the bottom by Ruben, came in 0.27% under. That is within our tolerance, but tolerance is something we promise ourselves, not you.

A refund of 12.8 cents felt like the wrong unit. Instead: come in any Tuesday through Saturday and we will light a Brownies & Ice Cream on the counter, and you can sit with it for eight minutes. Teodora will time it. We will run one extra minute in case of rounding.

Hi Gerald. That one was mine. I went back over batch 26-114 and I think the wick in glass 31 sat about a millimeter left of center.

I’m sorry. I’ve centered wicks by eye for six years. I’ve decided to also use a ruler for a while, to stay humble.

Ruben, I accept. I did not want anyone to have to use a ruler.

It would have! And it would have smelled like a parking garage for all sixty. We respect paraffin’s stamina. We have chosen a different path. Hope you’re well, Big Tallow.

Update. Went in today. Teodora timed it on her phone and on my kitchen timer, which I brought. Nine minutes, as promised. Pepper sat with me for the last four.

    The account is settled.

[Pepper sat with Gerald for four minutes and ten seconds. Given the subject of this thread, she would like that recorded accurately. — T]

Posting accounts are issued in person at the counter at 628 Vallejo Street, Tuesday through Saturday, 11 to 6, on a laminated card with your username written in pencil. Bring a username in mind, or Teodora will suggest one. She is right about eighty percent of the time.
